Meadows Dance Ensemble presents 2013 Spring Dance Concert

DALLAS (SMU) – The Meadows Dance Ensemble at SMU’s Meadows School of the Arts will present a selection of ballet and contemporary works at its Spring Dance Concert, March 30-April 3 in the Bob Hope Theatre of SMU's Owen Arts Center. Vigeland's Garde The dancers are Sidney Anthony and Jamal Jackson White. (Photo by Brittany Nicole.) Camille...a Poem of Intimacy  The dancers are Jessalyn Phillips and Joshua D. Deininger. (Photo by Brittany Nicole.) Prayers by New York-based choreographer Jessica Lang.  Camille…a Poem of Intimacy by guest artist-in-residence Jean Paul Comelin, whose five-decade international career has included working with the greatest names in 20th century dance. Vigeland’s Garden by faculty member Christopher Dolder. Two special student performances of Martha Graham’s Panorama, a preview of the upcoming Martha Graham Dance Company performance at the Winspear Opera House on April 30 presented by TITAS in association with the AT&T Performing Arts Center. The SMU concert opens with Prayers, a soulful celebration of a supportive community of nine female dancers set to the music of Giovanni Battista Pergolesi and Josquin Des Prez. Jessica Lang’s choreography seamlessly portrays the interpersonal relationships that inform, enliven and strengthen the community.   The work was originally commissioned by NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and premiered in 2008. Next on the program is Vigeland’s Garden new faculty member Christopher Dolder, inspired by the seminal work of Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland. The Darwinian comedy/drama interprets the cyclical patterns of nature – birth, life, death and rebirth – as they play out in the animal kingdom. Camille…a Poem of Intimacy is a work in progress by guest artist-in-residence Jean Paul Comelin, an internationally renowned choreographer, director and master teacher who has created more than 70 works for major dance companies on five continents. Camille is a stunning pas de deux inspired by the sculptures of French artist Camille Claudel (1864-1943), pupil and mistress of Auguste Rodin. Also featured will be No Contact, a work choreographed by SMU dance student Jamal Jackson White and premiered at the university’s brown bag dance concert last fall. On Friday and Saturday evening only, SMU dancers will give a special performance of Martha Graham’s powerful work Panorama. The performances serve as a preview of the SMU Dance Ensemble’s presentation of Panorama as part of the Martha Graham Dance Company concert, in the TITAS series, at the AT&T Performing Arts Center’s Winspear Opera House on Saturday, April 30. The SMU students were invited by the Martha Graham Dance Company the oldest and most celebrated dance company in America – to perform the work, said Myra Woodruff, SMU dance faculty member and a former Martha Graham dancer. “It is a tremendous honor for our college dance ensemble to have been invited to perform with the Graham Company in concert,” said Woodruff. “It is indicative of the exceptionally high regard the Graham Company has for SMU’s Division of Dance.” Premiered in 1935, Panorama is a groundbreaking masterwork for 35 dancers, set to a score, which uses sheer numbers and geometric design to drive home Graham’s intense socio-political themes.  Spring Dance Concert performance times are 8:00 p.m. Wednesday through Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday.  Tickets are $13 for adults, $10 for seniors and $7 for students, SMU faculty and staff.  Free parking is available at Hillcrest and Binkley or in the garage under the Meadows Museum.

Angelina and Brad to Marry (No, Really)

We've been ignoring this latest rumor long enough because let's face it according to the tabloids, Brangelina has gotten married like at least 10 or 15 times by now. But looks like this time might really (maybe?) kinda be for real. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are reportedly planning end of summer nuptials, reports the LA Times blog. Despite the fact that the two famously declared they would not wed until same  marriage was universally legal throughout the US, Jolie also admitted last summer that their kids had started to speak up about their lack of wedding bands. Pitt also told USA Today in May that, "The kids ask about marriage," reports Us Magazine. "It's meaning more and more to them," Pitt said. "So it's something we've got to look at." Us magazine also claims that three separate insider sources all say that a super private and informal wedding is being planned for the end of summer. The "I do's" could likely take place at their newly renovated Chateau Miraval in Correns, Francebut don't hold your breath. There's a good chance we won't be getting any photos from that day. Looks like we'll just have to wait and see what happens this time.

Cedarwood 2013 Fave Photos

You may remember a few weeks back when I listed my five favorite new bridal gowns that will be arriving to us this spring.  This week I’m revealing my five favorite new looks for maids take a look! I can just imagine this pretty cotton gown at a spring or summer wedding.  The color is absolutely gorgeous, and the soft details are perfect for a rustic-chic affair. It’s definitely not a basic bridesmaid look. The lace bridesmaid trend is not going anywhere for good reason!  It’s an adorable way to add texture to your bridesmaid look, and lace looks great in a variety of silhouettes.  I love the shapely structure of this little dress, and the coral lace is a great way to  incorporate one of this season’s hottest wedding colors. Chiffon is a great fabric for bridesmaids; it’s available in a multitude of colors, and is flattering to lots of different shapes.  When done in a basic style chiffon can be a bit boring, which is why I love the layers and ruching on this gown!  It really showcases the beautiful fabric, and is so feminine!  It has style and personality definitely not boring. Are you a bride who is struggling to find a gown that looks great on a multitude of sizes?  This chic little number is your answer.  It’s like the Sisterhood of the Traveling Bridesmaid Dress…one little dress magically looks amazing on everyone.  The ruched bodice and soft a-line shape is universally flattering, and the silk taffeta fabric makes it look so luxurious.

Wedding Dress Trend Pretty Peplum New Fashion 2013

I love the layered lace peplum of this tulle ball gown, and the best part… it’s removable! How clever is Kelly What a fun way to wear the trend, but have the option for a more classic tulle ball gown look. I also adore the bustle in the front of the dress on the bottom left. This fit-to-flare gown is made of silk santung. Fancy! Oh, and this finale! My oh my! Kristin and I literally gasped when this gown came down the runway. The simple silk satin fit-to-flare is accented perfectly with a lilac ombre-feathered skirt. Talk about wow factor! After the show, we couldn’t stop talking about those ombre feathers! now let’s talk glam! Matthew Christopher’s 2013 Couture collection was all about glamourous red carpet-esque gowns, and I’m all about that! Classic silhouettes with luxe details gave the MC collection a sophisticated feel. Opulent silk satin was mixed with raw-edged organza flowers to combine into romantic pieces. My favorite has to be the Toujour L’Amour (on the bottom right) this gown was inspired by cathedrals, and features a silk duchess bodice wrapped in elaborate beading, raw edge ruffles and crystals and pearls in a heart-shaped motif. Tres chic! In between shows we were thrilled to be able to shoot a little Street Style session with our awesome photographer Kat Harris! She even snagged these behind-the-scenes shots of us running between shows. Yes, I am totally into my iPhone in both shots either tweeting, or more likely trying to map out directions to the next show! Isn’t Kristin adorable? That girl has sass! I’ll let you in on a little secret: this is my favorite outfit, and I wanted to wear it the entire trip! (I didn’t, though!) Kat asked us to do our serious face. Well, you see how long that lasted! Want to know a little more about our outfits Check out Kat’s blog! She featured US in her Refined Woman series. We’re so honored! Thanks again to Kat for all of these images! have you not had enough Bridal Market 2012 goodness yet? Be sure to check out our designated board for all of this year’s styles, and set aside some time to watch the videos our friends at Lover.ly put together!
