Mobile Networks in Pakistan

Pakistan’s telecom sector is growing day by day and number of mobile phone user is also increasing exponentially. Growth rate of Pakistan’s Telecommunication Sector is highest in Asia and also one of the highest in world. Infact, Pakistan’s Mobile Industry is a billion dollar industry, as more than 8 billion USD have been invested in this industry by different companies and government of Pakistan.
There are over 110 million mobile phone subscribers in Pakistan from a total population of about 180 million.
Mobile Phone Operator Companies in Pakistan
Insta Phone and Paktel are the pioneer mobile phone operators in Pakistan. These companies launched their services in Pakistan in 1991. The technology of these companies based on AIMS. Instaphone was closed few years ago due to non payment of license fee to the government while Paktel was purchased by CMPak (China Mobile Company Pakistan Ltd) and it was renamed as Zong.
Now there are 5 mobile phone companies in Pakistan:

Mobilink
Mobilink is Pakistan’s largest mobile company with more than 30% mobile phone users. Mobilink was started in 1994. It is based on GSM 900/1800 technology. Jazz, Indigo and Infinity are its connection types with a lot of packages (Jazba, Ladies First, Jazz 1 etc) on prepaid and postpaid. It is an Egyptian based company.

Ufone
Ufone is also a big share holder in mobile phone user market. Ufone is a company of PTCL and is working under Etisalat Group, UAE. Ufone was established in 2001. UOne, Uth etc are famous brands of Ufone.

Telenor
Telenor is a Norwegian company and also one of the most reliable mobile phone service providers in Pakistan. Talk Shawk is very popular among Pakistani Youth. Telenor was established in 2006.

Warid
Warid is a UAE based company. 100% shares of company are owned by The Abu Dhabi Group. It is mainly popular in urban area and businessmen usually like its services.

Zong
Zong is owned by a Chinese company, CMPak. Paktel is former name of Zong. Zong is very popular among youth and others who have to call for long hours. Zong introduced hourly call rates, cheap daily SMS bundles, and affordable internet surfing in Pakistan. Zong 12 Aany, Zong Free and Zong 1 Paisa are major package plans of Zong.
